The Beginning
Rich Schad began working in insurance as a claims adjuster from jumping on roofs to look at hail damage to water damage inside homes. Rich decided to make the jump to being a full-time insurance agent. After interviewing several companies Rich decided on Farmers and opened the agency in Boulder Colorado in 1976. Rich quickly grew the agency into on of the top Farmers agencies in Colorado by providing impeccable customer service. "When I began I could calculate the rate myself on a rate card," Rich recalls. "We used dot matrix printers and had to send letters back and forth with underwriting to get many policies issued." Rich was known for his creative marketing, using polaroids of peoples new homes with his business cards attached. People loved to show others their new house and business would follow. Rich went on to win numerous accolades from Farmers Insurance, being named to the prestigious Presidents Council, Championship, Toppers Club among others.
The Next Chapter
Devon Schad joined the agency in the early 2000's before pursuing a career in non-profit fundraising. In 2015 Devon rejoined the agency with his father, sister and later his wife to grow the family business. In 2016, Devon took over running the agency while Rich continues to work alongside. Since taking the helm Devon has been awarded with numerous honors such as Championship, Tour to Torrey, District Agent of the Year, Blue Vase, Topper Club, Elite Commercial Agent, #1 Commercial Agent in Colorado 2 times, and Top 10 Commercial Agent in the United States among others. Devon enjoys the complexities of insurance and helping clients understand their risks and creating a plan to mitigate those. "I love being in a family business where we can create the next generational legacy to continue the traditions and hard work my father, Rich, laid the ground work for," said Devon.
